Turkish Airlines Lounge- IAD

Serving more destinations than any other airline, Turkish Airlines caters to a cosmopolitan customer base. The airline services 315 cities in 126 countries on its own, establishing a route network that is unmatched. It's North American network connects passengers around the globe via one-stop itineraries through its Istanbul hub. Washington Dulles represents a spot in Turkish's network which embodies the international nature of its product. As the primary international airport for the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region, Dulles serves passengers from every corner of the globe.

For passengers flying Turkish through Dulles, with appropriate access privileges, they may utilize the Turkish Airlines lounge. Passengers with tickets on partner airlines or lounge network memberships also may access this lounge, subject to local policies and hours. Located in Concourse B near the Turkish gate, the lounge is easily accessible for Turkish passengers. For those not on a Turkish flight, the inter-concourse transit at Dulles provides access. Although the iconic Dulles people-movers may present a challenge for those on a tight time-frame, they allow travelers to move unhindered between concourses.

Guests to the lounge are greeted by pleasant staff in the lobby. Upon entering, the food service room is immediately to the left. Adorned with models of Turkish aircraft and gold tones, the dining area contains a warm food buffet and soft drink options near the walls. The food offerings in the lounge are substantial: warm chicken, jasmine rice, roasted vegetables, fresh pita and hummus. Turkish tea is available to compliment the full-service meal options. As expected, the food service room is relatively crowded. Floor to ceiling windows are present throughout the whole lounge, with expansive views of nearby aircraft.

Moving from the dining area guests may utilize the restrooms, located between the dining area and the bar. With a few restrooms out of service, this area represented an unfortunate down-side of the otherwise superb facilities. The bar room hosts a full-service bar, fireplace, and side room with vegetation on three walls. Guests in these areas were comfortable, with less crowding than the dining room. It is noteworthy that the evening Turkish flight to IST was preparing to board during my visit, signaling lounge traffic was likely at a peak.

Passengers transiting through Dulles have the fortune of multiple lounges to choose from. For those privileged to access the Turkish Airline lounge, they will find a comfortable facility with appealing dining options. Although the lounge is further from other concourses home to non-partner airlines, travelers should not hesitate to put in the extra effort to visit this lounge.
