United Club- CLE Concourse C
Although no longer a major hub for United (Continental), Cleveland Hopkins still offers a host of flights throughout North America. For anyone traveling through CLE on a longer trip, the existing United Club can serve as a welcome spot to rest prior to their flight. Access is controlled like any other United Club, with day passes available for a fee.
The Club is far from the center of Hopkins airport. Located at the end of Concourse C, even at a healthy pace it is at least a 5 minute walk from the nearest security checkpoint. Although most United gates are near the Club, it is a significant distance to any United facilities after clearing security at CLE. Third party lounges near the airport center have recently opened, perhaps filling a void for convenient lounge options at CLE.
Despite the distance to reach the United Club at CLE, it represents an excellent option for travelers who utilize it. For an airport of CLE's size, it provides more space and amenities than would be expected. Once entering the Club, fliers can move down a hall to the food service / bar area, choose from a variety of private phone / work booths, move to an open area with ample seating and tables, or recline in the TV lounge. Whether this impressive variety of areas is a remnant from CLE's days as a major hub, or intentionally built following CLE's demotion to a "focus city," it remains a welcome benefit to travelers. The majority of the areas in the club appear relatively new, and were kept in an orderly manner.
The Club is roughly laid out in an upside down "L" shape, with windows along the perimeter. Natural light is plentiful throughout the facilities. Newspapers and small food items such as fruit are scattered throughout the Club. The main dining area hosts a large bar and 3 food service areas. Items available represented standard fair (continental breakfast, teas, coffees). These food service areas were clean, and the staff worked diligently to keep areas stocked and neat. Compared to other airline lounges, the amount of food offerings was slightly subpar. Regardless, what was offered was fresh and sufficient for anyone on an intra-continental flight.
The facility's staff were attentive and friendly, without being overly intrusive. For any business traveler, this lounge allows for a productive workspace. Traffic in the lounge was not an issue; finding an individual place to work did not require significant effort. For leisure travelers interested in unwinding, the Club's facilities provide multiple spaces to do so. The TV lounge is a large room with comfortable leather chairs and coffee tables. The outside perimeter of the Club is lined with large chairs and plentiful outlets. Restrooms in the club contained ample space in a cleanly manner.
Overall, CLE's United Club represents an impressive location for business or leisure travelers originating in or connecting through Hopkins International. For an airport of CLE's size, it contains offerings typical of a major hub. Despite it's distance from the airport center, the Club is a worthwhile stop for fliers seeking a refuge from Hopkins' public facilities.
